Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE)

SAE is a non-profit educational and scientific organization dedicated to advancing mobility technology to better serve humanity. Nearly 70,000 engineers and scientists, who are SAE members, develop technical information on all forms of self-propelled vehicles including automobiles, trucks and buses, off-highway equipment, aircraft, aerospace vehicles, marine, rail, and transit systems. SAE disseminates this information through its meetings, books, technical papers, magazines, standards, reports, professional development programs, and electronic databases. SAE Publications include Photometry Laboratory Accuracy Guidelines and Test Methods and Equipment for Lighting Devices and Components for Use on Vehicles Less than 2032 mm in Overall Width. American National Standards Institute (ANSI )

The American National Standards are produced under the leadership of the nation’s standards developers - preeminent professional/technical societies, trade associations, consumer and labor groups. ANSI, an impartial organization that does not develop standards, validates the general acceptability of the work of the technical experts. It guarantees that each standard writing group uses democratic procedures that gave everyone who would be directly and materially affected by the use of the standard an opportunity to participate in the development work or to comment on the documents’ provisions. Publications include Dimensional and Electrical Characteristics of Fluorescent Lamps – Rapid Start Types and American National Standards for Calibration - Calibration Laboratories and Measuring and Test Equipment - General Requirements.

American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM)

ASTM, organized in 1898, is a not-for-profit organization that provides a forum for producers, users, ultimate consumers, and those having a general interest, such as representatives of government and academia, to meet on common ground and write standards for materials, products, systems, and services. From the work of 132 standards-writing committees, ASTM publishes standard test methods, specifications, practices, guides, classifications, and terminology. ASTM’s standards development activities encompass metals, paints, plastics, textiles, petroleum, construction, energy, the environment, consumer products, medical services and devices, computerized systems, electronics, and many other areas. ASTM Headquarters has no technical research or testing facilities, such work is done voluntarily by 35,000 technically qualified ASTM members located throughout the world. Publications include the Standard Guide for Selection of Geometric Conditions for Measurement of Reflection and Transmission Properties of Materials and Standard Practice for Preparation of Reference White Reflectance Standards.

National Conference of Standards Laboratories (NCSL)

NCSL, established in 1961, is a nonprofit, laboratory-oriented organization designed to promote cooperative efforts toward solving the common problems faced by standards and testing laboratories. The organization originally consisted of corporate members who were actively engaged in primary standards. NCSL is now involved also in test, measurement, and quality assurance in a host of disciplines. NCSL is international in scope and membership. The membership is based in the academic, commercial, industrial, and government sectors. NCSL provides liaison with technical societies, trade associations, and educational institutions throughout the world. NCSL Publications include Calibration System Specifications and Reports and Certificates of Calibration.

International Standard Organization (ISO)

ISO is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies (ISO member groups). ISO works to standardize practices and procedures for the methodology under which government, business and manufacturing operate. The work of preparing the International Standards is normally carried out through ISO technical committees, which include both governmental and non-governmental representatives, and is now world renowned for its thoroughness and integrity. ISO Publications include ISO 17025, General Requirements for the Competence of Calibration and Testing Laboratories and ISO9001, Quality Systems - Model for Quality Assurance in Design/Development, Production, Installation and Servicing.

Council for Optical Radiation Measurements (CORM)

CORM is a non-profit organization composed of individual members interested in the measurement of optical radiation including UV, Visible, and Infrared. CORM’s aim is to establish a consensus among interested parties on industrial and academic requirements for physical standards, calibration services, and interlaboratory collaboration programs in the field of optical radiation measurements. This includes setting priorities, liaison with NIST, dissemination of information, response to inquiries, and cooperating with other organizations for the benefit of the public at large. CORM holds an annuals conference typically held at a National Measurement Institute. Some publications include Pressing Problems and Projected National Needs in Optical Radiation Measurements and Advances in Standards and Methodology in Spectrophotometry.
