Awaken the Force for Your Space Applications

Labsphere’s Space-Grade Spectralon® Reflectance Material has gained wide acceptance as a reflecting diffuse material for terrestrial remote sensing applications for both field and laboratory applications. Space-Grade Spectralon combines high reflectance with an extremely Lambertian reflectance profile.

Space-Grade Spectralon has undergone extensive testing for UV exposure, Proton bombardment, atomic oxygen exposure, a-Lyman radiation, outgassing and static charge testing by national laboratories, such as Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Goddard Space Flight Center, TRW, and CSEM. This testing has led to the development of a stringent manufacturing process that eliminates potential contaminants which lead to UV degradation.

For imaging applications your grey target solution must work for a wide variety of lighting environments and still maintain its appearance. Most importantly it has to have uniform spectral response. Fluorescence (Phosphor) Materials

Doping Labsphere Spectralon®, a stable non-fluorescing substrate material with stable inorganic phosphors with known stimulus bands and stokes emission bands to create a machinable fluorescent material for instrument performance validation.


Laser Pump Chambers

A Spectralon® reflector surrounding the laser rod serves again to improve the pumping efficiency by reflecting pump radiation that is not absorbed by the laser rod on its first pass.  Benefits to using Spectralon versus other material options include: 1) easily machined rapid prototype if Spectralon design guidelines are followed, 2) extremely uniform pumping which results in an optimum beam profile,  and 3) exceptionally long life time. 


Proximity Sensor Test

A proximity sensor is a device which detects objects when they get within a certain distance from the sensor. The proximity sensor will then usually send a signal to an electronic circuit (proximity switch) to perform a simple action, such as opening a door, turning on a light, sounding an alarm for industrial safety, or deactivate embedded programs like that of a smart phone. To calibrate the sensitivity of an optical proximity sensor to the objective a target of similar diffuser reflectance is required. 


Source Sensor Compensation

To optimize an image instrument's sensors to the illumination source and target of known reflectance is used to adjust the light source output to optimize the sensor's exposure for the given application. The ideal reflector is diffuse, similar in reflectance levels to the samples to be tested, repeatable, reproducible and durable. Labsphere offers diffuse reflectance coatings and materials that are ideal for this application.

Spectral radiance and radiance are key radiometric values used to calibrate the spectral response of spectroradiometers, multispectral and hyperspectral imagers. Time Of Flight

Describes a variety of methods that measure the time that it takes for a light wave to travel a distance through a medium. This measurement can be used for a time standard or track objects and even the topology of an object. To calibrate these time of flight instruments diffuse targets of varying reflectance levels and shapes are required. Labsphere’s Permaflect and Spectralon® are ideal for these applications. Reflectance Factor
