Project Manager, Custom Systems

Join a world-class team in solving our customers’ toughest challenges as our Project Manager for Custom Systems.  This exciting role will provide an opportunity to solve problems across several industries, including aerospace & defense, cosmetics & sun protection, lighting, automotive & transportation, image sensors, medical & life science, consumer electronics, telecom, and industrial photonics.     

This person will oversee the planning, design, and development of our custom product portfolio. In this role, you will manage project workflow management within engineering including system design, review and release to manufacturing, and product performance and validation testing for unique optical systems. Projects typically involve a combination of optical, mechanical, electrical, and thermal design.

The Project Manager will be expected to coordinate the project through the development life cycle and work with other Engineering and Project Managers to define priorities, assign tasks, and work with production personnel to meet the performance specifications of the project deliverable while having direct responsibility for the project estimations. Beyond project management, you will also be the lead personnel refining processes, effective implementation and coordination with the planning and manufacturing team.

To succeed, the candidate must be a hands-on person and act as a driver to motivate and steer the team to achieve the project goals of the group while satisfying customer requirements. You should be organized, self-motivated, and eager to learn about and develop new technology. The candidate will need to manage multiple projects/tasks and work within a cross-functional team environment to provide creative and innovative solutions to solve challenging problems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all project activities and workflows including scheduling/resourcing, planning, design reviews, interdepartmental liaising, project reporting, and risk management.
  • Assist in defining project scope with relevant stakeholders to ensure technical feasibility.
  • Responsible for tracking all engineering efforts with focus during the design phase.
  • Facilitate design reviews and other forms of communication, to ensure intra and inter-departmental collaboration.
  • Interface with engineering leadership, engineers, vendors, sales/customers, and internal production teams to ensure design, build, and test requirements and execution plans are understood and achieved.
  • End-to-End project oversight to ensure on-schedule and on-budget execution.
  • When appropriate, interface with sales/customers during project execution.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, management, or equivalent
  • 2+ years of technical project management experience within manufacturing sector
  • Experience guiding multi-disciplinary team tasked with solving technical problems

Senior Product Manager

Join a world-class team in solving our customers’ toughest challenges as our Senior Product Manager.  This exciting role will provide an opportunity to launch products and solve problems across several industries, including aerospace & defense, cosmetics & sun protection, lighting, automotive & transportation, image sensors, medical & life science, consumer electronics, telecom, and industrial photonics.     

Labsphere is looking for an experienced Product Manager to join our team. The Product Manager is responsible for the business ownership of one of Labsphere photonics/light measurement/remote sensing product lines. This includes end-to-end product planning and execution across the entire business lifecycle. This role involves gathering and prioritizing product requirements, defining product vision, and collaborating with cross-functional teams (engineering, sales, marketing, finance, and operations). The product manager will create materials and collateral needed to communicate the capabilities of product, including competitive positioning, brochures, presentations, and white papers. The Product Manager will ensure product goals align with the company’s overall strategy and financial objectives.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Product Strategy: Develop and execute product strategy and roadmap, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives.
  • Product Management: Manage the entire product lifecycle from concept through launch, including defining product vision, performance requirements, gathering and prioritizing product and customer requirements, and overseeing product development. Manage the product line lifecycle from introduction to phase out including pricing, and cost analysis.
  • Market Analysis: Identify market trends and business opportunities to position the product competitively. Conduct regular user, sales, customer, and distributor interviews (VOC) to gather insights into product performance and areas for improvement. Cultivate a deep understanding of customer needs, pain points, and “jobs to be done” to guide product strategy and decisions.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Engage with engineering, sales, and marketing teams to gather product requirements and execute product plans.
  • Metrics & Reporting: Define, analyze, and report product metrics to measure success and inform strategy.
  • Product Promotion: Attend and present product performance and capabilities at relevant trade shows, seminars, and conferences. Support Sales with presentations, customer visits and on-line interactions as needed to drive revenue of product lines.
  • Competitive Analysis: Conduct competitive analysis and market research to identify market trends and opportunities for innovation.
  • Business Optimization: Manage the product to optimize revenue, profit,and inventory working closely with Sales and Operations teams.
  • Go To Market: Develop comprehensive go-to-market strategies and work with marketing and sales teams to execute successful product launches.

    • Data-driven decision-making, incorporating input from both internal and external stakeholders.
    • Strong verbal, written, communication and presentation abilities; highly proficient with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of the remote sensing market. Specifically, earth observation, multi- and hyperspectral imaging, drone, aerial, and space imaging systems and markets.
  • Preferred: Photonics industry knowledge with an understanding of optical systems, LEDs, lasers, electro-optics, radiometry, and photometry.

VP Sales and Marketing

Join a world-class team in solving our customers’ toughest challenges as our VP of Sales and Marketing.  This exciting role will provide an opportunity to solve problems across several industries, including aerospace & defense, cosmetics & sun protection, lighting, automotive & transportation, image sensors, medical & life science, consumer electronics, telecom, and industrial photonics.     

The VPSM will be a key leadership team member responsible for defining and executing the company’s commercial strategy. This role will oversee all commercial activities, including sales, marketing, business development, and customer service. The VPSM will work closely with other senior leaders to drive revenue growth, enhance market positioning, and ensure global alignment with the Labsphere’s strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement the company’s commercial strategy to achieve revenue and growth targets. Ensure alignment with overall business goals and objectives.
  • Sales Management: Lead and mentor the global sales team and partner network to drive high performance and meet or exceed sales targets. Implement effective sales processes and performance metrics.
  • Marketing Oversight: Oversee the marketing strategy to build brand awareness, generate leads, and support sales initiatives. Collaborate with the marketing team to create compelling campaigns and content.
  • Business Development: Identify and pursue new business opportunities, partnerships, and markets. Develop strategies for market entry and expansion.
  • Customer Success: Ensure exceptional customer experiences and satisfaction. Develop and implement strategies for customer retention and growth.
  • Financial Performance: Monitor and analyze commercial performance metrics. Develop budgets, forecasts, and reports to ensure financial objectives are met.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with engineering, operations, and finance teams to ensure cohesive execution of commercial strategies and initiatives.
  • Market Analysis: Stay informed about industry trends, market conditions, and competitive landscape. Use insights to drive strategic decisions and maintain a competitive edge.

Requirements:

Our ideal candidate brings a wealth of experience and should possess the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Science field, Engineering, Business Administration, Marketing, Finance, or a related field. An MBA or other advanced degree is preferred.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) in senior commercial roles, including sales, marketing, customer service and business development.
  • Proven sales and business experience in the United States, Europe, and Asia; either directly or through a partner network
  • Demonstrated success in developing and executing commercial strategies that drive revenue growth and market expansion.

Machinists

Join a world-class team in as an Machinist on the 2nd Shift.  This position works Monday-Thursday, 10 hour shifts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Exhibits and applies solid understanding of prototype set ups and machining as well as knowledge of Labsphere machine tools, controllers and finish requirements;
  • Reads blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished part, sequence of operations, and setup and tooling requirements.  Can read and manipulate CAD files (Solidworks preferred) to clarify product requirements.
  • Demonstrates advanced set-up, understanding of sequence of operations, decision-making and troubleshooting capability to provide alternate approaches to any machining situation;
  • Ability to design and fabricate parts, fixtures and tools for specific jobs and calculate speeds and feeds, depth of cut, proper coolant for the different materials used at Labsphere;
  • Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications, using the appropriate measuring equipment.  Understands how to use optical comparator height gauge, sine plate, indicators, micrometers, verniers, depth mics, bore gauges, etc;
  • Measures, marks, and scribes’ dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for the lay out of subsequent machining;
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, and/or any other Labsphere machine equipment;
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media;
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required;
  • Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications;
  • Sets up and operates machine on test run to verify accuracy of machine settings.  Updates program to latest revision for pre-programmed parts as needed; 
  • Verifies dimensions by using inspection equipment such as micrometers, verniers, gage pins, pitch micrometers, etc;
  • Meets standard times on routers and reports to supervisor when deviating from standard time;
  • Reports to supervisor any conflict or problem that will interrupt the flow of work in the Machine Shop work environment;
  • Follows Labsphere’s safety policy in the machining area;
  • Mentor and/or train new or junior employees as required;
  • Confers with immediate supervisor or other machinists if supervisor is unavailable to resolve machining problems.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, plus eight to ten years related Machine Shop experience or an equivalent combination of apprenticeships, training, education and hands on experience.
  • Ability to apply algebra, geometry, and trigonometry in practical situations, as well as functions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Assemblers

Join a world-class team in as an Assembler.  This position can works Monday-Thursday, 10 hour shifts, or Monday-Friday 8 hour shifts.

The project is a basic, no experience necessary, assembly work for our sister company Avo Photonics.

The work entails using glass fiber cables and inserting them into an electronics box.

Employees are allowed to wear headphones and listen to their own music or podcasts.

Optical Calibration Technician

Job Purpose: The Optical Calibration Technician is responsible for performing optical calibrations and measurements of standard as well as custom products in a laboratory environment, and ensuring that products meet required quality standards as well as all specifications and customer expectations.     

Essential Job Functions

  • Sets up test equipment and conducts measurements on performance and reliability of product.
  • Plans sequence of testing and calibration program for instruments and equipment according to blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, and other specifications.
  • Meets production schedules.
  • Carefully follows established calibration and test procedures.
  • Analyzes and converts test data using mathematical formulas, reports results, and evaluates data against pass/fail criteria, proposing corrective actions as needed.
  • Confers with engineers, supervisor, and other technical workers to assist with equipment installation, maintenance, and repair techniques.
  • Disassembles and reassembles instruments and equipment, using hand tools, and inspects instruments and equipment for defects.
  • Maintains equipment records and logs.
  • Performs preventative maintenance of test apparatus and peripheral equipment.
  • Writes and maintains test procedures for new and existing product.
  • Other duties as assigned.

General Requirements:

  • Associates degree in a technical discipline required.  A minimum of 2 years experience in a related field preferred.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and their applications .
  • Proficiency in a variety of computer software including the use of spreadsheets, databases, graphs, and word processing. Experience with LabView, Python, and MatLab preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and professional demeanor to deal with internal and external contacts.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to work effectively in a multitask environment under deadlines.  Must work independently and show initiative.
  • Flexibility to deal with regularly changing schedule priorities.
  • The ability to meet challenges that lie beyond the current position description and learn to solve problems creatively.
  • Ability to effectively perform the entire above mentioned essential job functions.

Engineering Technician for Operations

The Engineering Technician is responsible for performing a variety of duties in support of new and existing product development as well as troubleshooting and repairing a variety of mechanical and electrical systems. This role requires a deep understanding of mechanical & electrical schematics and control circuits.

Essential Job Functions

  • Conducts inspections and testing of prototypes as well as existing products.
  • Solders both circuit boards and wiring as needed.
  • Troubleshoots electrical circuits.
  • Provides testing and Engineering support for Engineered Solution and Value Engineering Projects.
  • Troubleshoots equipment using hand tools, microscopes, multimeters, and other tools as needed.
  • Meets production schedules as needed.
  • Troubleshoots technical problems and determines solutions in accordance with product and customer specifications, recommending actions to customer representatives for solution.
  • Communicates repair status and issues to the RMA Supervisor as well as other necessary departments during the repair process.
  • Carefully follows established build and test procedures.
  • Simulates a part or assembly’s reported failure and then troubleshoot using assembly-to-component approaches.
  • Collaborates with engineers, supervisor, and other technical workers to assist with assembly and repair techniques.
  • Communicates findings and works with Manufacturing Engineer to drive to root cause.
  • Writes and maintains test procedures for new and existing product.
  • Other duties as assigned.


General Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years experience in a manufacturing environment, including 2 years in a troubleshooting role.
  • Associates degree in a technical discipline preferred. 
  • Basic knowledge of CE testing.
  • Soldering experience, preferably under J-std guidelines.
  • 3+ years of experience with rapid prototyping and fabrication.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics and identify symbols and control circuits with a high degree of competency.
  • Proficiency in a variety of computer software including the use of spreadsheets, databases, graphs, and word processing. Experience with programming languages preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and professional demeanor to deal with internal and external contacts.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to work effectively in a multitask environment under deadlines.  Must work independently and show initiative.
